Supplement interactions

Supplement interactions: what berryl shows you.

Some supplements get in each other’s way, and some nutrients reach you from several products at once. berryl checks your routine and gives you short notes, with Premium including the explanation and source. This is information, not a diagnosis.

Timing

Some minerals compete for absorption. One example: calcium can lower the absorption of iron. Then berryl suggests taking the two at different times.

Double and too much

Vitamin D in your multivitamin and in a single product? berryl adds up the amounts and compares them with the upper limits, by default those of EFSA.

Information, not diagnosis

The notes are about your supplement routine and the details in your profile. berryl does not look at your health in detail and does not diagnose anything.

What a note looks like

Short, clear and with a source.

Calcium slows iron absorptionCalcium can lower the absorption of iron. A gap of about 2 hours is often mentioned. Source: product information for iron preparations, section 4.5; EU opinion on calcium (SCF/EFSA)
Timing
Vitamin D in 2 productsTogether 75 µg (3,000 IU) a day. That is clearly more than the reference value but below the EFSA upper limit of 100 µg (4,000 IU). Source: EFSA 2023, upper limit for vitamin D

fits

Example, simplified. This is how berryl shows notes in the app. The notes are based on your routine, the details in your profile such as age or pregnancy, and general data, not on your individual health.

With Premium, each note says what it is about, what a common recommendation is and where the information comes from; for free you see the short line. If you have a health condition, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

Where do the notes come from?

With Premium, every note in berryl names its sources. They include reviews and studies from the scientific literature, opinions of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), product information for preparations, and fact sheets from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Linus Pauling Institute. For reference values, berryl starts with the values for your country: the NIH values in the US, Canada and Latin America (including Brazil), the UK values in the UK, the NHMRC values in Australia and New Zealand, the DGE values in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and the EFSA values everywhere else. In the settings you can choose another source.

In October 2026 we checked the rules one by one, with the help of AI, against product information and official sources. A review by a pharmacist is still pending.

What berryl cannot do

  • berryl does not know your medical history.
  • berryl does not diagnose anything and does not suggest any therapy.
  • No app can know every interaction. If berryl shows nothing, that does not mean there is none.

If you have a health condition or questions about your routine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. They can also look at your supplements.

Supplement interactions FAQ

What is berryl and what is it not?

berryl is an information tool for nutrition and supplements. The app does not diagnose anything and does not give treatment advice.

What do I do when berryl shows a note?

Read the note, and with Premium its explanation and source. Often it is enough to take a supplement at a different time of day. If you have a health condition, talk to your doctor or pharmacist first.

Work it out for free

The upper limit check shows whether a daily amount is above the EFSA upper limit. You can check two supplements with the interaction check. Both use the app’s values and rules. All calculators
